Course Information
Introduction
The dental health course was developed to acquaint students with knowledge and skills to adequately diagnose,manage and prevent dental diseases.
Course Goals
Upon completion of the Dental Health course you will be able to:
- Take a relevant dental and medical history
- Perform a regional physical examination of the patient
- Record a summary with provisional diagnosis (Impression)
- Propose relevant tests (radiological) that may be important in further management
- Participate as a team member in the multidisciplinary management of medically compromised dental patients.
Description
This course will be delivered through lectures and clinical demonstrations.Tutorials and chair side teachings shall be conducted in the dental department of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital. Students will be expected to clerk and present a patient to the assigned clinician. The clinician will then guide the student through history taking, examination, dental treatment planning and management of basic dental diseases and conditions. The student will also be shown the various instruments, equipment and materials that are used in dentistry to provide dental treatment.
Required Readings
The main reading material will be lecture notes and specific journal papers that will be shared from time to time based on the topic
Assignments and Projects
The student is expected to hand in a report on a specific oral condition every week of their rotation in Dental Health. You will also be expected to meet all the requirements stipulated in the log books
