Re: concept note
Hello Allan,
I hope you are well.
I am glad you are now clear on what you need to do. I also hope that you saw the templates of concept/proposal format and power point presentation I sent you. As long as the concept has all those sections indicated in the templates, it does not matter how many pages it would contain. The important aspect is that it contains all required sections.
Kind regards.
Bonuke.

Re:format for concept paper
Re: research proposal topic/supervisor
Hello Charles,
I hope you are well.
For your school, there chairperson of the postgraduate studies had circulated a schedule of activities for 2016. However, the schedule ready at the moment is that for students who have defended their concepts at the school. The schedule for proposal defenses is under preparation. Once ready, it will be uploaded on the portal for you to see. In addition, option for online defenses are available, but you will have to taken through a demonstration of the platform that will be used. When you and the department are ready to defend, we at eCampus will facilitate the online defense.
Kind regards.
Bonuke.
Re: research proposal topic/supervisor
Hello Eunice,
I hope you are well.
You are welcome. There are differences between a project and thesis, and this is information that your school should have provided you at the beginning of your course to enable you decide whether to do a masters degree by thesis or by project. You can also get the details on the SGS rules and regulations (I have attached a copy here for your access).
In terms of procedures, development of research concept and proposal defense at the School are the same for projects and thesis. After defense at the school, thesis proposals are submitted to SGS while project proposals are submitted to your School. In addition, thesis defenses are run and done at SGS while project defenses are done at schools. There is also a difference in the time each takes. Details are on the attached manual.
Kind regards.
Bonuke.
Re: research proposal topic/supervisor
Hi Dr Bonuke
My challenge still remains that I defended concept paper got allocated supervisor but there has been no feedback from the university side to date. I also filled the progress form you sent us but still in the same position. I request to defend my proposal through online means or at least way forward.

Re: research proposal topic/supervisor
Hello Allan,
I hope you are well.
To start with, research proposal topics are never approved just by submitting a title alone. Besides, if you are just starting, then what you have is a concept title. You are yet to get to a proposal level.
Here is a summary of the process: First, you develop a research concept note in the area you wish to study. Once you have the concept, you prepare a power point presentation, come and defend it at your Department and you will be guided on your choice of study and content. It is at this point that supervisors will be assigned to you to help you develop a complete proposal from the concept. You will then be required to defend your proposal at the School level, after which you will make corrections and submit it to SGS for approval (if you are doing research by thesis). Once you have a letter of registration from SGS, you will then submit the proposal to ethics review committee to receive a certificate of ethics clearance (if your study involves human participants). Its at that point that you will be able to go and collect data in the field, process, analyze and write up a thesis which will be submitted to SGS for examination and later defense. That whole process takes approximately a year to complete, if you work fast and do a good job in writing and coming up with a sound concept, proposal and thesis. If you are doing a project, the process is slightly different after proposal defense.
To help you develop a concept note and power point presentations, I have attached templates of the concept/proposal and power points presentation guides that show the format and content you are expected to have in your concept, and later proposal. In your concept note and presentation, ensure that all those sections are included.
I hope this clarifies what you need to do.
Kind regards.
Dr. Bonuke.
