Proposal development

Thank you for creating this platform to guide the proposal development process. I hope this will help in providing timely technical guidance in completion of the required processes/steps for thesis.

Am concern about the guidance offered by the e-campus in proposal development. There is limited or no guidance in proposal topic selection and concept note development. I don't know if this is my experience alone, but I have not received any guidance on the process apart from the notes uploaded on the moodle. I suggest the following;

  1. e-campus to provide technical guidance during proposal topic selection and concept note development by reviewing the selected topic, concept notes developed and sharing feedback
  2. If feasible, assign supervisors after the proposal topic selection.
  3. Consider decentralizing the concept note defense to the examination centers.

Hey Silas,

Very valid concerns that should make me worried. I noted the coursework lacked interaction in some modules completely. I hope this changes in this proposal development stage and there will be better interaction between us and the facilitators/supervisors.

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all well.

Thank you Nicholas for your views and thank all for your comments on what Nicholas raised.

Let me first note that the structure exists for topic selection and a format given for concept note development. Please note that a concept does not have to be a complete document for it to be presented. I would also recommend that it will be helpful and important for you as a student to identify a potential supervisor from within your schools faculty or outside to assist you develop your concept as opposed to wait to be assigned one. All the students i have seen progress faster took the initiative to identify mentors and come with the names at the concept defense for confirmation. That will enable you move forward rather than waiting to be directed.

It would be a good idea to decentralize the defenses but would be long term. For now, i suggest you take advantage of the mid semester face to face meeting at Maseno to complete the defenses. Since the dates are announced at the beginning of the semester, it would be possible to plan and attend the 3 day meeting. This works for most students as we wait to have the services decentralized. Remember the defenses are to be attended by all the School faculty and moving the entire staff to centers can be a challenge.

All the best and i hope you will be able to help each other and progress faster in your studies.

Kind regards.

Bonuke.
