1. MNS 301 Pediatric Nursing
1.1 Welcome Remarks
I am delighted to welcome you to MNS 301 Pediatric Nursing
This course is offered to year three students pursuing Bachelor of Nursing Program. The face-to-face component of the course was already covered. The online component will address three topics i.e Pediatric Oncology; Child abuse and Drug and Substance abuse in children and youth.
1.2 Course Outline
Pediatric nursing is a course offered to third year nursing students to impart them with skills in pediatric history taking, physical examination and management of sick and well children. It comprises both theory and practical sessions. The theoretical component of the course was largely done via face-to-face mode. This course will cover content in the three areas highlighted.
Course Purpose
This course aims to equip the students with knowledge, skills and appropriate attitudes in care of well children and children with childhood diseases / conditions.
Learning Outcomes
- Identify the stages of child development and the specific developmental tasks and related nursing implications
- Identify determinants of disease in children
- Understand the etiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation and management of childhood disorders
- Demonstrate proficiency in management of sick children by use of the nursing process.
- Facilitate health promotion activities for the child and family by use of the nursing process
- Utilize professional nursing literature as a resource for expanding nursing knowledge and practice
