    • Introduction

      In this topic, you will be taken through the different methods of assessment. You will learn how to upload an online assignment, attempt a quiz and finally check your grade book and feedback on your assessments within a given course.

      There are primarily 3 methods of online assessment you will interact with frequently  within the online course:

      1. Graded Discussion forums
      2. Submitted Assignments
      3. Quizzes

      Activity 3.1: Graded Discussion Forums

      In the previous session on using online communication tools, you were taken through the use of discussion forums. A discussion forum can be graded or not graded.. In some courses, the discussions posted in the discussion forums will be graded by the facilitators/Lecturers. Graded discussion forums are used by the lecturers assess the lessons on a given topic. 

      Your Tasks

      1. Participate in the topic 3 Discussion forum by threading to the discussion initiated by your facilitator. Your discussion post will be graded.

    • Activity 3.2: Submitted Assignments

      In some of the learning activities within the courses, you will be required to submit your work for grading. The eLearning portal supports submission of assignments in a variety of formats (pdf, doc,ppt,mp3). You are required to submit the assignment in the provided assignment box.

      Your Tasks

      1. Download the orientation worksheet and answer the questions then submit the answers in the assignment box provided.

    • Activity 3.3: Quizzes

      Within the online courses, you will be provided with Quizzes. Quizzes are graded by the system and the results and feedback displayed after the attempt. There are two types of quizzes you will encounter within your courses i.e. Mastery Quiz and Timed Quiz

      Mastery Quiz

      This quiz has been structured to allow the learner more than one attempt and thus not timed. Its purpose, as its name suggests, is to allow the participant to master the concepts presented in a course.

      Timed Quiz 

      As the name suggests it is actually timed with a provision of a single attempt. In this case, the purpose of the quiz is for assessment. You are required to finish the timed quiz well within the indicated duration.

      Your Task

      1. Attempt the Mastery and Trimmed quiz
        (Note that you only have one attempt at the timed Quiz )

      Ensure you are logged in and you are within the course for which you would want to check your grade. The following steps will therefore apply.

      Step 1: Click on the grades menu item on the course menu as shown below
