Justification of the need for the programme.

There is great need for Maseno University and other Universities and Institutions of higher
learning, offering MBChB and other basic health science-oriented courses, for highly qualified
anatomists who can participate both in training health care workers and research. This type of
academic work requires specialization and expertise in Anatomy which undergraduate courses in
the ordinary MBChB and BSc Anatomy programmes cannot provide. Anatomists are in great
demand in medical schools and Ministries of Health and Education training programmes for the
paramedical courses.
Goal of the Programme
In pursuit with the University goals and mission, the programme aims to prepare graduates for
career in teaching and research by adding advanced knowledge and practice in the current
innovations, technology and modern anatomical techniques. The training of health professionals
in this unique field will add value to the University’s contribution in achieving competitive and
quality education, training, research and affordable healthcare as enshrined in the big 4 agenda
and Vision 2030.

Expected Learning Outcomes of the programme

By the end of this programme the graduate will be expected to: -

  1. Demonstrate competence in applied and clinical Anatomy of all regions of the human body
  2. Demonstrate advanced laboratory techniques in the fields of Digital imaging and
    microscopy
  3. Apply Anatomical knowledge in teaching and training of medical and biomedical scientists
  4. Appraise and evaluate the knowledge of developmental anatomy in understanding
    structural variations.
  5. Apply the acquired skills and techniques to undertake scientific research and utilize the
research findings in improving the health standards of the community.
